Advent in Rijeka – City Center Christmas Market

After first and second part of trilogy of Advent in Rijeka, the third and the last part of trilogy is city center Christmas Market. What to say about advent in the heart of the city? I had high expectations, though, it’s the center of the city. The city that is the European Capital of Culture 2020. I expect glamor, overstatement, glare, to feel that Christmas spirit, to enter in another fairy tale. Advent in Rijeka – Abbey (Opatija)

First part of trilogy was Advent on Trsat Castle. Now, second in trilogy is Advent in Abbey. Opatija is located 18 km (11 mi) northwest of the regional capital Rijeka. “The old 14th-century Benedictine abbey, Opatija Sv. Jakova (“Abbey of Saint Jacob”), from which the town derives its name (opatija means “abbey” in Croatian) is located in Park Svetog Jakova or Saint James’s Park. Saint Jacob’s church, built in 1506 and enlarged in 1937, now stands on the same spot.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opatija) The town park Angiolina contains many species of plants from all over the world. It has been protected since 1968. Close-by, vis-a-vis Hotel Imperial, stands the statue The Fountain…

From the beginning, the Tree was a gathering place and reflection of what was happening in the world around it. Even before the first formal tree went up, workers lined up beneath a Christmas tree on the Rockefeller Plaza construction site to collect their paychecks during the height of…

    Advent Family Trip to Sarajevo

It’s been a while since my last post. Well, I was at my Advent family trip to Sarajevo and it was Christmas right after I came back. So, I was really busy these days with packing, unpacking, laundry and making cakes for Christmas dinner. Advent in Sarajevo As I mentioned, this year I decide to go somewhere unusual at this time of the year. Everybody goes to Christmas markets in Europe and America, drinking cooked wine and eating sausages. Why is Sarajevo unusual? Well, Bosnia and Herzegovina has three major religions. First is Islam with 50.7%, second is Serbian Orthodoxy with 30.75%, third is Roman Catholicism with 15.19% and others…
